Outside Hawaii TV

Episode: Division of Aquatic Resources

We were excited when our friend and fellow filmmaker Matt Yamashita connected us with the team at Outside Hawaii. They asked us to co-create a segment for their local TV show that airs on OC16. Outside Hawaii is a long-running local show that takes viewers across the Hawaiian Islands and throughout the Pacific to visit the people and places that make up these culturally diverse lands. The segment that we produced for the show focused on three staff members at the Department of Aquatic Resources here in Honolulu. Each of the subjects’ jobs is related to caring for and protecting the nearshore reef ecosystem. We shot this over the course of four shooting sessions on Oahu. We met with each of the three team members individually and focused on their specific roles. DAR’s state-funded and multifaceted approach to protecting Hawaii’s reef system seems to us to be a noble approach that is attempting to protect this ocean resource for folks to enjoy today and into the future. We were impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm of the three team members (Nortan Chan, Kimberly Fuller, and Jason Mehlinger), we’re fans of the great work they do.
